     Winmau World Masters 2014 - Part 1

News for Dart PlayersCharis writes " Might be the one or other wondered that I don't seem to be in Dublin for the World Grand Prix this year. But the World Grand Prix is not the only major tournament which is played at the moment! And to be sure I am in the field though not in Dublin - but for the first time in Hull, where the Winmau World Masters started yesterday.
The tournament - better the tournaments - already started on Tuesday with the first phase of the new BDO Youth World Championship. A lot of the best youth players from around the world were here anyway to take part in the World Masters. In the final of the World Championship Harry Ward from England will play against Dutch Colin Roelofs. On Wednesday the play-offs for the BDO World Championship took place and from the field of participants Canadian Maria Mason, Sarah Brent from England, Daniel Larsson from Sweden, Englishman Rhys Hayden, Canadian Jeff Smith and Belgian Cedric Waegemans qualified - all for the first time in Lakside.

The big adventure - part 2

News for Dart PlayersCharis writes "
    Shanghai all set.
    Tickets in hand
    Passport in hand
    Travel visa stamped in passport....
    Packing nearly complete...

In the evening before the take off to San Francisca the family drove over to the airport in Toronto to pass the night there in a hotel. The plane would start at five o’clock am – to stay over night near the airport looked like the best chance to get at least a little bit of sleep. Though probably none really slept… But at least one had the time to look around and it would be easier in the morning. Steven was less nervous than the rest of the family - by now he was full of gleeful anticipation. Everybody got about around half past three in the morning, Steven said good bye and passed through the customs around four o’clock and at five am the plane took off. It was supposed to land in San Francisco five and an half hour later…The operative world is“supposed” as the plane landed with some delay and only thanks to Scotty who already waited for Steven and looked after the luggage the two made it only just in time to the connecting flight to Shanghai. Rather upsetting for the parents who followed the flight on computer – while the two in San Francisco just had no time to get worried

Whitlock Hits Premier League 9 Darter!

News for Dart PlayersErik writes "Winmau’s Simon Whitlock hit a 9 darter in the Premier League semi-final last night as he beat Andy Hamilton to set up a final with Phil Taylor. The amazing feat came in the second leg and Whitlock said: "I'll never forget the 9 darter. I've thrown a couple of 9 darters before in front of big crowds but not in front of 10,000 fans, so it was special."

In the final against Taylor, Whitlock fought back brilliantly from 7 – 2 down to level 7 - 7, but missed one dart to lead 8 - 7. Taylor went on to claim a 10 - 7 victory and the £150,000 prize.

The Premier League final was played in front of a packed O2 Arena in London, and it was a fitting finale to a fantastic tournament. "

News for Dart PlayersErik writes "Maciej Chorbinski from Poland is the proud winner of the Ted Hankey shirt competition. Maciej is a huge Ted fan and was overwhelmed that his design was chosen by "The Count" himself.

The winning design is pictured here and will be worn by Ted in a televised tournament in the near future.

Ted said: "I was genuinely touched and impressed by the sheer amount of designs that were sent in and I had a great time reviewing every one before choosing the winner. Maciej's artwork captured everything I was looking for, and it will perfectly compliment my current wardrobe!"

Maciej will receive a signed set of Ted Hankey darts, a Blade 4 dartboard, a Ted Hankey Coffin Darts Case and 2 tickets to the final of the 2012 Winmau World Masters. As an extra special thank you, Ted has agreed to produce one extra shirt that will be sent to Maciej in recognition of his great concept.

Winmau and Ted would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who entered a design. "

     Comeback Win for Winmau’s Eccles

News for Dart PlayersErik writes "RenFrew, Scotland - England's Tony Eccles saw off over 2000 competitors to win the Scottish Open by 5- 3 from Robbie Green in the final.

Tony rounded off his return to the BDO with a superb display that saw him edge past many top players including Stephen Bunting, Martin McCloskey and Barry Copeland.

"It was an extremely tough day as the standard was so high in every round, but I managed to keep my nerve and I’m delighted with the win," Eccles said. "With the slate wiped clean at the start of every year, it's great to be back in the BDO and I'm really looking forward to trying to qualify for the major events this year".

42 year old Eccles takes home a £2250.00 cheque with his 10th career BDO win and first major victory since the Norway Open in 2007. "

     Darts on the Radio

News for Dart PlayersCharis writes "During the PDC World Championship in the press marquee in Alexandra Palace you can always find a young man sitting in a shielded corner. Usually he’s already there when I come and he’s still there when I leave though I am always one of the last to leave.
He’s called the “radio man” and it looks he’s sometimes commentating matches live. From time to time he does an interview with some of the players."
