     Dartboard Comparison Test Revisited.

Darts & Stuff of InterestTheCommandant writes "Earlier this year I began a dartboard comparison test to determine which dartboard was the best made today. At the end of my test (stretched from one month to 4) I announced that Unicorn won the contest with their Unicorn Eclipse Pro (SEWA Archives). Well, today I wanted to revisit that contest because part of it was to allow the boards to sit in the pub for as long as they would last to see which would prove most durable. I thought I’d have a board that would last a year or more. Boy was I wrong!

Under heavy use, NO BOARD lasted more then 5 months!

Now this is a moderately active dart bar as far as dart bars go and it has darts at least 3 if not 4 or 5 nights a week, so clearly any board here will get hammered. In this case they got hammered in 5 months, whereas, two boards in another bar have been up for nearly a year and both are in good working order, but they are used only once a week. Thus, I can conclude that under light use a board can last a year or more. In this case the two boards lasting a year in one small pub are the Unicorn Radius and the Unicorn Maestro, but I am certain that nearly any other board would do the same under such light use.

So, here we are, a year later and what can I tell you? After 5 months of abuse I was forced to retire a Unicorn Eclipse Pro because wires were protruding out of the board but otherwise the board was in excellent shape and still very usable. In the same amount of time I was also forced to remove a NODOR SUPAWIRE that is totally useless. Why? Because the wires are flattened out, buried into the board and causing massive bounce outs!

So, in the longevity test the Unicorn Eclipse Pro comes out way ahead.

To be fair however, NODOR was very late in getting me their boards and as such I didn’t get to test them all in the heavy use environment the same way or time. SO the NODOR SUPAMATCH wasn’t put to the same test, however its wires are very similar in construction to the SUPAWIRE except that it has no staples. Thus I suspect it will suffer the same fate and the Unicorn would likely still get the nod.

Unicorn’s razor wire system actually extends the life of a dartboard. How can you beat that? You get the best wires, the best board and it last longer because it has those wires.

In my opinion, you cannot buy a better dartboard. Will it last forever? Nope. Will it last at least 5 months of very heavy use? Yes. Will it last a year under light use? Yes – I still have one of the test boards up in my house and it is still VERY usable – in fact, it’s nearly like new still.

Buy a Unicorn Eclipse Pro – You can’t go wrong.

I completely agree. I've seen some supawires boards that had the wire turned flat, and darts were bouncing everywhere. Plus the supawires are too weak, they bend and move very easily.

I posted something about the harrows matrix board. Recently a bar bought some. I noticed on the first night it showed considerable wear (especially the black sisal was losing it's color fast). You could tell right out of the box that it wasn't of the same quality (the wood on the back was so weak that the screw bent in the wood when putting it up).

I've bought seveal eclipse boards now, and I absolutly hate when i have to play on anything else. This board totally ruins your for anything of lesser quality.
