Last I heard he was being sued by several people for taking their money to 'invest' in his business and not paying them back or making more darts etc -- or something to that affect.

Yeah there was something a couple years ago about it. Heck it may have been an old post here or on a FB group but several people were chiming in on it. Apparently the darts were actually pretty good but the main guy pushing them was really shady and kind of a scam artist. I may get a lot of this wrong (I've drank a few times since I read about it) but if I recall, he was talking a big game and making several promises to get big investors and when a few people bought in, he basically "ghosted" them and they could never could get in touch with him and he never came through with the product. I do believe he got sued and so on. So basically he is long gone. The dart was supposedly really good but since the people behind it were shady it didn't go anywhere.

I may be getting them confused but did the Smart Dart eventually become the Balance Point darts? It may just be that the reputations on the people involved are similar. The Balance Point darts are still around but the only place I see them is on www.usdarts.com. I throw a set of Predator R1 22gm darts now from US Darts and they have the best and most unique grip of any dart I've ever used. I've bought stuff from US darts a few times and never had a major issue (other than maybe slow delivery once), but I've heard stories of people having some issues with communication or customer service, nothing as severe as the Smart Dart guy though. Again, the two may be completely unrelated. Like I said, I've drank since then lol. I've kind of always wanted to try the Balance Point darts. I have a set of their movable conversion points and I do agree they are WAAAAY better and more solid than the Bottelsen style, but since I've switched to playing steel tip exclusively, I've gotten away from moveable point darts and prefer a fixed point. The Balance Point doesn't come in a fixed point version.

I do not believe there is a connection between Dart Smarts and US Darts/Balancepoint. I have a set of the Smart Darts, and they are decent darts, but nothing extraordinary.

I thought I may have been imagining the connection. I'm constantly looking at dart stuff and follow so many dart pages. It all starts to run together eventually.

OMG I hear you. I fell out of darts for several years (burn out? Other interests?) but before I did I blogged real reglar like. Recently I have been going through a lot of my old posts and realizing that almost all of the pages and other blogs that I linked to are dead now. I am glad crow's is still up but I don't think it has been touched in a decade. But the itch is coming back and at least I have been blogging again. I need to get back into league!

God! I used to hit Crows Dart Page every single day in hopes of a new update. I was on Cyber darts for hours each day chatting away (still have a lot of friends all over the country that I met originally there) and I read every book and magazine I could find that even had remotely a connection to darts. Since I've been playing and following darts, I've never gone away from it for more than a few months or a year at most. I've had lulls where I was a little burned out and wasn't playing well, but honestly at best I've only ever been an average player, so all it took was a run of good play and I'd be hooked again. I used to buy new barrels about every 3 to 6 months looking for that magic set that always found the trip 20 and the double out. Sadly, I came to the realization that the "magic" barrel doesn't exist and I finally found a set that had the grip I really liked and seemed to throw as consistently as any other set I've owned, so I've been throwing with the same set (those Predator R1's I mentioned earlier) for two or three years now. I actually didn't buy them from US Darts. I found them on Mueller's under the "barrel only" section for $18.95!!! A buddy of mine like the look of mine so he bought a set too. He apparently got the last set they had because the haven't shown up there since. I'm the nutty type who weighs my barrels with a digital scale and since these were so cheap, they weren't "exactly" the same weight. I bought the set off my buddy for a crisp $20 bill and between the 6 barrels, I was able to make a set that was within 0.02 gm of each other. That was close enough. Since they weren't on the Mueller's website anymore, I started to get scared I wouldn't be able to find another set if I happened to lose this set (I've never lost a set of darts ever mind you) and I finally found them on the US Darts page and their Amazon page, so I'm covered if I ever lose the two sets I have (like I said, nutty). Now I'm just in the habit of trying different shaft lengths and flight sizes and shapes trying to get them to fly and stick just perfect. So the crazy never ends!

Squiggle, you sound like you are the same style dart geek as me. You might like my blog: The Dart Indoors.

Balance Points were another company and guy. Very nice guy in fact and made great darts but I think he gave it up several years back. I did some reviews for him and played with a few different sets of the balance points actually.

But not SEWA :D Er, Dartplayer :) We're still sewa-darts.com but when I did the server and software upgrade a couple years back I went straight dartplayer in the name of the modern age.

I offered to host Crow's when it went off the air but then he got it back up or someone else did. Nothing updated there but still available.

Allow me to express my appreciation that you have kept the dream alive. There may be a lull in membership at the moment, but here you only need patience. Facebook is digging deeper and deeper into unethicalness, with its firesale of peoples personal data, and as their membership drops, forums will benefit. Hang tough, bro.

I feel like recently there seems to be a lot more action on here. There are a lot of new players coming to the sport. As their interest in darts turns into an obsession (like it did for me), then they will start looking for more info on the sport. Eventually their searches will lead them here. They'll be over the trolls on some of the Facebook groups and the drama and will find our conversations a refreshing change. Then membership will grow even more.

Thanks guys -- and yes, it's actually picked up a bit of late. We went through a pretty dry spell there for a while which I believe was due to the massive amount of FB groups on darts. I've seen it on other forums also. Just drying up more and more...but lately things have begun to move back to the forum world which is by far much better! So who knows? We might yet be here another dozen years ;) But I did quit trying to get advertising to help with site costs because membership and usage was way down (just couldn't justify it even though there was a fair amount of 'clicks' still.

But who knows, maybe we're heading back in the right direction now :D
