Van, that is one thing I can definitely master :) We Aussies know how to talk sport, even if we can't quite hit the board!

Well 6 weeks later stuff has changed. For the better. I can now confidently complete the A1 drill in a session, and the time required has improved from 1h45 to 57mins. The average number of rounds required has also dropped from 26 to 16, with 8 of the 16 targets in my last 2 rounds being cleared in <15 visits. There are still typically two targets that I get stuck on and which blow out to ~25 rounds, but overall it’s a much, much better picture. And sticking all 3 in the target bed is not unheard of too.

Thanks GoDartsPro.com for the A1 drill with useful statistics.

I’ve also changed my darts to Simon Whitlock Special Edition Prism 24g, chosen for their scalloped grip spot, with shafts changed to Pro Grip after trying out different lengths to get the right landing angle. I kept the purple Prism Alpha Flights coz they match the purple darts nicely. Gotta look good! I found I was regripping a lot with a more smooth barrel, and struggling to hold the dart in a consistent way. My first throw with these in the store was DB, DB, close - so I bought them :).

And as a final test tonight I increased the skill level of Dartsmind’s dartbot from level 4 to 5, then beat it 5-1 in 501, averaging 41.8 with 23.8% checkouts, 17 x 60+, and checkouts of 60, 40, 65 (and 2 twice).

Altogether it’s been a fun day of darts practice.

Good show Rodney! Improvement is cumulative here and as with any fine motor skill you will plateau and sometimes regress before the next breakthrough. Don’t be discouraged and keep up the good work!

One tip: Don't get demoralized by some of the scores saved by others. First of all, there ARE several World Champions buried in there (some using their real name and some not - heck Darth Maple is John Part's alter-ego to hold only scores achieved on a practice board!). It only shows the best score for each game (though you can see your own past attempts), but we used to check some against prior attempts. What can we say? It's on an honor system and some will always fudge their numbers. We kicked around doing an average of a person's five best, but we didn't want to discourage some who hadn't finished a game once.

We created this because, in many league areas, the top teams thought they were doing well, but you only have to be the biggest fish in a small pond, right? So, we got curious how the top Pro's would do (I actually kept track of a couple of guys, like Phil Taylor, whenever he shot at the 20's until I had 100 of them!). Fortunately, some of the biggest shots back then saw the benefit of these and contributed scores.
