I feel that I have taken my own personal practise as far as I can on my own and although I have seen very good improvement I was feeling stale with it.

So I took the plunge and I signed up for this course at the Red Dragon web site yesterday and began the assessment of my darting skill level today with some exercises that they emailed to me and from the results of these exercises I will have a practice regime tailor made for me by the Darts centre there with a view to practising the right way to improve my own personal game.

I have to play the games that they emailed to me over the next few days and then email my results back to them so that they can assess my current skill level and then I will be given certain things to practise that will hopefully take me up to the next level. I can not go into detail about the tests but I will let you know about my progress.

Interesting :) Kinda like flight school. What I'm wondering is if any of the games are the same games in our practice rankings? Can you tell us that?

The games are not the same as on the practice rankings but with darts there are only so many things you can throw at, ie Scores Doubles, Trebles.

The initial games or exercises are designed to show up any areas of weakness in each individuals personal game and maybe my weaknesses could be another players strengths.

I have done the first 2 exercises today one this morning and another this afternoon after a few beers at lunchtime (as it is my day off work today) and I am happy that my results reflect an honest picture of my personal game (as my friends say I like to play Oldschool darts, Tanked up and Topped up and enjoy a few beers with good company, and I will attempt to complete the next 2 exercises over the next 2 days and or nights after work.

In a nutshell you are tested on Doubles and doubles trebles and singles and checkouts and scoring and then the main areas of weakness on will hopefully be detected and the relevant practice regime will then be assigned to each individual, if I have any questions the Tutor is only an email away.

The exercises will take a few hours each to complete and it is important to be deadly honest and to do them over 3 days or so as this gives a more accurate result.
That is all I can say about the actual practice as it is in somebodys business program and they would not like it if I were to say exactly what the initial tests were.

I think that they will aim to identify my main weaknesses and then assign practice games to help me overcome them and if I put the hard work in I should improve further.
I am enjoying my darts again and I want to ensure that this time I give it my best shot to be as good as I can be and no excuses .
I have also finally managed to find and join a team here in the Algarve Portugal and my goal is to go the the national finals in May 2019, time will tell.

I sent the results of my assessment back to the coach and he started me at week 3 to 5 as he said he thought that I was advanced enough to begin there. I have 4 new games to practice for the next 3 weeks and then I will be re assessed again.
I began practice on these 4 new games yesterday and it is going well, I just beat by record on Bobs 27 at the first time of retrying it in weeks and upped my cricket score by a couple of points too on the dartplayer.net practice site.
I feel that the new training is already doing me good and having a coach to work with inspires confidence which is a good thing with darts and all sport in general.

The thing is that you have to put the work in yourself and if you practice the right way for your own game then it stands to reason that you should improve. I have been tinkering with my flights set up during this intensive practising and I have found that I am doing well with standard flights. My grouping seems to be a little tighter and I m going with this setup for now.
I am meeting the some of the other players in the darts team here in the Algarve Portugal Tonight and I am going to play a few legs of darts against them to test my new setup under match pressure.

The first training at the darts team went well, I had to revert back to the pear shaped flights due to the air conditioning affecting the flight of the slightly bigger normal shaped flights and making them stick in a liitle sideways.

My best leg was a 13 dart leg and during the evening I hit 2x 180s. They are a great bunch of guys in the team so the coming season that begins in October is going to be great fun.
I just upped my cricket score again, from 33 to 35 in practice this morning so I am very happy with how my game is coming together, I wish I had put this much effort in at darts 20 years or more ago but better late than never, lol.

Nice going! 13 darts is really good! And two maximums! I hope the camaraderie of the team brings out better play from you as well! I look forward to hearing about your progress.

I attended the 2nd training session for our darts team here in the Algarve Portugal last night and it went well again for me. I tried some slim flights for the 1st part but eventually switched back to the pear flights and have now decided that the pear flights will be the ones I use.
I hit 2 x 180 s again just like last week and although I hit no 13 darters I was more consistent keeping at 21 darts and below more often with a 16 darter and a few 18 darters and lots of 21 and sub 21 darts legs.
I hit 4 or 5 finishes of more than 100 and topped it off with a 170 checkout so I was really pleased with my progress these last 3 months or so and since I began the Red Dragon training course a couple of weeks or so ago.
I am off to the UK and Greece in 2 days and will be gone for most of the rest of this month but I am taking my darts with me and I hope to get some practice in while I am away.

Cheers guys, I hope to get some practice in while I am away but it will not be as much as I would like. I always go away with no internet or android phones etc as I want a holiday away from any phone calls or texts and enjoy a relaxing holiday. I will post again on my return on 30th September.
