    Cheers everyone,
I was hoping to start a league or darts anything here in town... Ive got boards and possible locations.
If I were to pursue this with someone who owns an establishment, how could I approach them on the subject and what do they generally like to hear...lol

Im hoping that somehow I can help the sport grow in a town of 25k and 1 hr from Pdx.
It would just be nice to have a place to play with others, its just not easy to come up with all the ideas and logistics... so that's where you guys come in.. :)

    Advice and questions are welcome.
    Thanks again!!

Pick a night that is usually a slower one for the establishment. It will give you more room for the league and should make a bar happy to be getting extra business.

I usually approach the business with the idea that they need more people in to make money (by them buying drinks and food) and if they have the space I suggest that I can possibly bring in X number of people one night a week if they'll let me use the space to put up a dart board.

One thing that sometimes comes up is insurance but I always point out that pool balls and cues are far more dangerous then steel tip darts and they usually laugh and agree. No need for more insurance though I've heard some insurance companies try that crap -- it's pure BS though.

Anyway, approach it as a way to help them bring in customers.

Then try recruiting people by both being there often but also advertising int he local paper, online and at the pub for a charity shoot of some kind and find a decent cause to give money too.

Charge $5 a head to enter with all proceeds going to a cause and then ask a local trophy shop to donate a trophy or three....then people can play for the trophy while donating to a cause and having fun.

    Used to work quite well.

Looks like a fail for this town here.
No one has the desire to try anything new.
No biggy, I'll just train at home and play in Portland.

I was just reminded that sign-ups for Spring League are tomorrow at 6pm at the A&L Sports Bar (60th and Glisan).

We have people driving in from Lincoln City so you're no where's near the farthest drive.

    They can probably afford it.
    Thanks for the input

    I was wondering.
In pdx, is there was one or a couple to places to choose for a yellow belt to drop in and play along with the rest?
It sounds dumb, but how does it go in terms of just dropping in. :?

You can usually drop in and play anywhere. Trouble would be finding players. Monday nights at Horse Brass Pub are pretty regular. And Sellwood Public House seems to have some gatherings on weekdays and weekends, but I haven't been out there.

As with anthing else, it can depend on the people, but most don't mind someone dropping in. Many would welcome it.

Or just offer to buy a round and you'll probably have folks here meet you there ;)

    "Will play for beer."

Too bad I haven't had time to even go out lately... :?

Hopefully the break will actually help my darts (or my team will need to hold my butt up until I shake the rust off - lol!). :p

    ...tourny at my place!

Got a nice set up in the living room and the walk to the fridge is short.
    Byob
I've dedicated 2hrs a day to practice and now it's time to have people over to beat me...lol
