Glen Durrant continued his impressive form as he looks to retain the title he won a year ago. A 99.13 average gave him a 4-1 victory over Darryl Fitton. Second seed Mark McGeeney was another 4-1 winner, sending Danny Noppert home.

While the top two seeds looked comfortable, the same can’t be said of #4 seed, Scott Mitchell. The 2015 champ posted a nice average of 96.39, but it wasn’t enough against Andy Baetens. The young Belgian kept his cool, and ran out the winner by 4 sets to 2. Another former Lakeside champ, Scott Waites, advanced to the quarters, as did Welsh veteran Wayne Warren.

There were solid performances on Thursday from Richard Veenstra and Jim Williams, while Anastasia Dobromyslova also looked great as she eased past Lorraine Winstanley. However, THE best display came from Justin van Tergouw in the Youth final. The 17-year-0ld fully justified his tag as favorite with with a superb display of darts. After Killian Heffernan took the first set in some style (with checkouts of 87 and 156), young Justin didn’t drop a leg. The last set was something special, taking the first leg in 12 (with a 131 check), and securing the title in 15, checking out from 132! Oh, and let’s not forget the 170 out earlier…
